science in our daily lives

ok i am bored from studying..in view of the exam season now..i suddenly had the inspiration to post this..hahaha

before anyone continues reading, please just take this post light heartedly..i mean no offence but just as a small stress-relieving joke

ever wondered how is learning all these science/knowledge useful in our daily lives?

i can come up with some examples actually.

let's first start with nucleophilic substitutions, Sn1 and Sn2. in both cases, to get attached to your target of choice, ie the substrate, you must ensure that either 1: the leaving group is gone like in the case of Sn1 (ie. single) or 2: the leaving group is going like in the case of Sn2 (ie. breaking up)..then next is the stereochemical factors..the substituents (ie. friends/cliques/family?) must not be in your way..if not the bonding will never occur between you and the substrate..quite true right?

ever heard of heisenberg uncertainty principle? i'm not a physics student..but in general, the concept of it is that the product of displacement and momentum is greater or equal to a constant (Planck's constant/2 if im not wrong), but the more you are certain of 1 of the parameters, the higher is the uncertainty of the other parameter. think of it this way, how fast you proceed in a relationship is analogous to the momentum..and how long you will be/had been together is analogous to the displacement. ok..now..the displacement can be measured simply by the numbers of days/weeks/months/years/whatever have passed since you guys got together, and the speed can be measured by hmm..gut feeling? so case 1, you know how fast you are going, but you will never know how long you will last. case 2, you know how long you have lasted, but you do not know how fast you went. can be proven by these few statements: "we had been together for xx months (a certain displacement), don't you think we should bring our relationship to the next level (an uncertain momentum)?" "we had only known each other for xx months (a certain displacement), perhaps we should take things slowe (uncertain momentum)." the statements can continue..but you get my point.

thermodynamics and kinetics, the two theories that have to go hand in hand in nature. thermodynamics determine whether a reaction is favaroble, kinetics determine how fast it proceeds. our behaviour/movement can be described as brownian motion, we're all actually moving in random movements relative to each other. anyone who has done a bit of science will have learnt that for 2 molecules to react, the reaction muz be favorable..meaning the end product must be stable. they must be able to exert some form of attraction on each other..like electrostatic attraction..so that the probability of the random motions that will cause them to collide will increase. and collision must occur in the right orientation. with all the thermodynamics in place, next will be the kinetics. the reaction should be able to proceed if all the barriers, like energy barriers, are not in place. if not, a catalyst can always be used. ponder over this, sounds like humans making new friends?
